IMC treats more than 41,000 since earthquake
With the winter weather continuing to
put local populations at risk, there has been a rise
in the number of acute respiratory infections. Forty-one
percent of the 4,800 patients IMC doctors saw last
week were
treated for ARI. IMC mobile medical teams most recently
visited areas including Sarash, Mang, Kamrian, Qals,
upper and lower Mitikoat, Banda Balola, Jabrah, Dumgala
and Patlang.

Huge
turnaround for malnourished Burundi children
IMC
is seeing huge success from a community
nutrition program it started
in October 2005 for moderately malnourished
children under the age of five in Burundi’s
Rutana province. Using the Positive Deviance
Hearth Model, the program trains parents
on how to prepare healthy foods with available

Enjoys Success of Master Trainer Course in
Afghanistan
IMC Afghanistan celebrated the success of its
Master Trainer course with a graduation ceremony
for program participants at the IMC Training
Center on January 30, 2006. Attended by Afghanistan’s
Minister of Public Health, the Deputy Directors
for Technical and Reproductive Health, and IMC
acting country director, this was seen as a major
step in achieving the long-term goal of self-reliance.
Sponsored by the Sager Family Foundation, the
Master Training course is a three-month intensive
program where IMC and Ministry of Public Health-trained
doctors provide medical refresher courses to

Charitable Efforts Recognized at MedShare
International Event
IMC has been named In-Kind Partner of the Year by MedShare International. Program
Commodities Coordinator Josephine Garnem was on hand at the 2005 Salute to MedShare
International Partners event, where IMC was honored for its contributions as
a shipping partner of the organization. IMC has had a strong relationship with
the organization since 2002. MedShare International works with US hospitals to
ship medical supplies and equipment to more than 85 countries where people are
denied medical aid because of lack of resources.

Nancy Aossey moderates a government panel
on Avian Flu preparedness and response in
Washington, D.C. The public meeting is being
held by the U.S. Agency for International
Development’s Advisory Committee on
Voluntary Foreign Aid.

22 – Lee Bycel, IMC’s Senior
Advisor, Global Strategy, is a featured
speaker at Pepperdine University’s
Magill Business Symposium where he will
discuss the Ethics of Social Responsibility.
March
12 at 1 PM – Lee Bycel will be
a featured speaker at “A Call to
Action on Darfur” at the Museum
of Jewish Heritage in New York City.
This event will give participants a better
understanding of the dire situation in
Darfur and the refugee camps in neighboring
Chad. Activists, aid workers, and policy
makerse will discuss how to raise awareness
and take action. The event is open to
the public and free with suggested donation.
