IMC addresses effects of drought in Kenya
Since 1999 severe drought in Kenya has put 3.5 million people, including 500,000 children in need of emergency assistance. Minimal access to water has also made Kenyans vulnerable to hunger, disease and poor sanitation. Read more


Lee Jong-wook, WHO Director GeneralIMC Kenya program hosts WHO Director General
World Health Organization Director General, Lee Jong-wook and Kenya's Minister for Health, Charity Ngilu, visited IMC’s Tuberculosis HIV program in Kibera. As they toured the facility with Country Director Peter McOdida, Jong-wook saw first hand the high quality of IMC’s work and success of the program. Jong-wook told McOdida that he was impressed by IMC’s work and continued commitment to the Kenyan people.



IMC opens new mobile clinic in Afghanistan

IMC hosted a ceremony for the opening of a mobile health clinic in Sheikh Mesri Township, Afghanistan on March 13th, 2006. Attended by Dr. Asif Qazi Zada, Deputy Governor of Nangrahar Province and Suzanne Griffin, IMC acting Country Director, this new clinic is another step by IMC to continue to offer health care services to the Afghan people.

The clinic employs two doctors, a midwife and a pharmacist who provide health care services to those who are most in need of help. IMC is working with Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health to help coordinate these efforts.

IMC's Lee Bycel leads trip to Rwanda and Kenya
April 2 - 10, 2006: Rabbi Lee Bycel, Senior Advisor for Global Strategy, will lead a trip to Rwanda and Kenya to help educate people about IMC’s efforts in the countries. The group will attend a ceremony in Kigali, Rwanda commemorating the 12th anniversary of the genocide. This ceremony will pay tribute to 800,000 people who were killed and those who survived. In 2005, Bycel led three trips to Chad and Darfur.

“Mental Health in Africa: Time for Action” conference features IMC medical experts
April 24 - 25, 2006: Dr. Lynne Jones, IMC’s technical adviser on mental health, and IMC psychiatrist Dr. Joseph Asare will be presenting on their work in Indonesia and Sierra Leone at an upcoming Mental Health in Africa conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Also from IMC, psychiatrist Dr. Mustafa Elmasari, who is based in Chad, will discuss IMC’s work initiating mental health services for Sudanese refugees there.

IMC’s 3rd Annual Women to Women Luncheon
May 11, 2006: President and CEO Nancy Aossey will discuss IMC’s efforts to relieve suffering and foster self-reliance through humanitarian assistance and training of local health care personnel in places like Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Uganda at the 3rd Annual Women to Women Luncheon. She will focus on IMC’s work with women and children, who represent a majority of the world’s war-affected populations and bear much of the suffering inflicted by violence and poverty.
